百分数由基数词(或小数)和百分号(%)组成，百分号(%)读作 percent：
50％ fifty percent 百分之五十
3％ three percent 百分之三
0.12％ zero point one two percent 百分之零点一二
这里的percent前半部per表示"每一"，cent这一后半部分表示"百"，所以百分之几中percent不用复数形式。
百分数后接名词时有时用介词of，有时不用：30% of the students(30%的学生)，a 30% chance(30%的把握)。两者的区别是：后接介词of时，percent 为名词，of表示整体中的部分;不接介词of时，percent 为形容词(此时不表示整体与部分的关系)，再比较：6 percent of the interest=利息中的百分之六，at 6 percent interest=按百分之六的利息。
